1. Do we go after the Nisu'in (and he may not marry a Bogeres)?
2. Or do we go after engagement (then, she was permitted)?
(b) Answer (Shmuel): Our Mishnah teaches this.
1. (Mishnah): If they were widowed or divorced, they are Kesheros.
(c) Clarification of question (R. Chiya Bar Yosef): I did not ask if he makes her a Chalalah (disqualified from Kehunah) - only relations does that!
1. "He will take a woman Bivsulehah (in her virginity)" - does "take" refer to engagement or Nisu'in?
(d) Answer (Shmuel): This is also taught in the Mishnah!
1. (Mishnah): A Kohen engaged a widow and was appointed Kohen Gadol - he may marry her.
(e) Objection: That case is different - "He will take a wife" allows it!
(f) Answer: This also teaches that he may marry her if she became a Bogeres during engagement!
(g) Objection: The verse only permits one case.
(h) Question: Why say it permits the case when he was appointed Kohen Gadol, and not when she became a Bogeres?
(i) Answer: In the latter case, her body changed; in the former, it did not.
(a) (Mishnah): A Kohen Gadol may not marry a widow, whether from engagement or marriage;
(b) He may not marry a Bogeres; R. Elazar and R. Shimon permit this;
(c) He may not marry a Mukas Etz.
(d) (Gemara - Beraisa): A Kohen Gadol may not marry a widow, whether from engagement or marriage.
(e) Question: This is obvious!
(f) Answer: One might have thought, we should learn from Tamar, who was also called a widow.
1. Just as Tamar was widowed from Nisu'in, a Kohen Gadol is only forbidden to a widow from Nisu'in - we hear, this is not so..
(g) Question: Why don't we learn that way?
(h) Answer: Presumably, the case of a widow resembles a divorced woman - and a divorcee is forbidden both from engagement and from Nisu'in.
(i) (Mishnah): He may not marry a Bogeres.
(j) (Beraisa - R. Meir): He will take a woman Bivsulehah (in her virginity) - excluding a Bogeres, whose Besulim are finished;
1. R. Elazar and R. Shimon permit a Bogeres.
(k) Question: On what do they argue?
(l) Answer: R. Meir says, had it said Besulah - this would mean, even some tokens of virginity; Besulehah - she must have all of them; Bivsulehah - (she must be a virgin) in the place of normal relations, but need not be a virgin in the place of abnormal relations.
1. R. Elazar and R. Shimon say, Besulah - this connotes, a full virgin; Besulehah - even some tokens of virginity; Bivsulehah - she must be a virgin both in the place of normal and abnormal relations.
(m) (Rav Yehudah): A woman that had unnatural relations is disqualified from Kehunah.
(n) Question (Rava - Beraisa): "She will be a wife to him (the man that raped her)" - a woman fitting for him, to exclude a widow to a Kohen Gadol, a divorcee or Chalutzah to a regular Kohen.
1. Suggestion: If he raped her normally - even if she is not a widow, she is unfit for him, since she is not a virgin!
2. Rather, he raped her unnaturally - she is forbidden to him because she is a widow, but not because she is not a virgin!

(o) Answer: The Beraisa is as R. Meir; Rav rules as R. Elazar.
(a) Question: If so, one need not say she is not a virgin - she is a Zonah!
(R. Elazar): A bachelor that has relations with a single girl, not as an act of engagement, makes her a Zonah.
(b) Answer #1 (Rav Yosef): The case is, she had relations with an animal - she is not a virgin, but is not a Zonah.
1. Objection (Abaye): Either way, this is unreasonable!
2. If she is not a virgin - she is also a Zonah!
3. If she is a virgin - she is not a Zonah!
i. Suggestion: If you will say, she is a Mukas Etz in the unnatural place of relations - you cannot find a girl that is not a Mukas Etz there, through rocks (used to clean oneself after defecating). -
(c) Answer #2 (R. Zeira): She did Mi'un.
(d) (Rav Simi Bar Chiya): A girl that had relations with an animal is Kesherah to Kehunah.
(e) Support (Beraisa): If she had relations with a non-human, even though she is liable to be stoned, she is Kesherah to Kehunah.
(f) (Rav Dimi): It happened in Heisalo, a dog had relations with a girl, and Rebbi permitted her to Kehunah.
(g) Objection (Shmuel): There was no Kohen Gadol in Rebbi's day! Rather, he said that she is fit for a Kohen Gadol.
(h) Question (Rava mi'Parzika): What is the source that Znus is not applicable to animals?
(i) Answer (Rav Ashi): "The hire of a harlot, or what is traded for a dog - (both of them may not be brought as a sacrifice)".
1. (Mishnah): The hire of a dog, and what is traded for a Zonah may be brought - "Both of them", not all 4.
(j) (Beraisa): A Kohen Gadol may not marry a woman he himself raped or enticed; if he married her, he is married;
1. A woman raped or enticed by another man, he may not marry; if he did, R. Eliezer Ben Yakov says, the child is a Chalal; Chachamim say, the child is Kosher.
(k) (Rav Huna): If he married a woman raped or enticed by another man, he must divorce her with a Get.
(l) Question: But the Beraisa said, 'If he married her, he is married'!
(m) Answer (Rav Acha Bar Yakov): He is married, to say that he does not pay a fine in the case of an enticed girl.
